On the morning of February 17, 1944 “Operation Hailstone” a surprise attack by United States Navy aircraft caught Japanese merchant vessels and warships by surprise in Truk Lagoon.
Over 400 tons of bombs and torpedo were dropped during the sustained attack, with more still dropped when the attacks continued on February 18, 1944. A total of forty ships were sunk and thousands of Japanese were lost, and ten weeks later, a second successful raid sank even more ships.
Today the entire area has become one of the most iconinc and renowned dive areas in the world, and we’re giving you the chance to be one of a handful of divers to experience it.

Both Apeks and OMS have recently announced Product Recalls on some of their buoyancy devices. Apeks with regard to their WTX inflators and OMS with regard to a seal ring within their wings.
Apeks
Aqua Lung has been made aware of a case of a poorly retained oral inflate button that has worked loose from an Apeks WTX inflator. If the button were to come off, the spring behind the button would also come off thereby removing the tension needed to keep the valve closed. If this were to occur in the water, it could lead to a leak of the BC contents out of the oral mouthpiece.
All Apeks dealers and distributors have been made aware of this issue.

OMS
Ocean Management Systems, Inc. (OMS) has notified the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), that OMS is voluntarily recalling approximately 19,790 Sealing Rings BCA-500. Molding variations in this part as used in the OMS Buoyancy Control System (BCS) could cause cracking or breakage of part, resulting in rapid loss of buoyancy, creating a potential drowning hazard. While this variation is not present in every Seal Ring (Item # BCA 500) It would be difficult to determine in the field which Seal Rings are suspect. Therefore we are requiring that all Seal Rings be updated with new assemblies. All NEW seal rings are equipped with reinforcement at critical areas.

With Christmas and New Year fast approaching us, it’s time for us to consider our opening hours and delivery expectations over the festive period.
As per usual, we will stop shipping orders just before Christmas to prevent parcels spending a lonely Christmas sat in a delivery depot, or getting lost. Normal delivery service will resume from Monday 4th January 2010.
